Stray dogs wander the streets, craving the loving touch of a human hand and the kind smile of a passerby. These pups lack love, care, food, and shelter.
While the life of a stray is a difficult one, the life of a stray momma dog is far more difficult. They do their best to care for their babies, and at the same time, they dream of the day when they’ll meet wonderful humans who will give their puppies a forever home.
Marla, a brave stray momma dog who was found on the docks, had the same dream.

Meeting Marla
When Kristin Erwin found out that there was a stray pooch in the vicinity of her workplace in Channelview, Texas, she immediately drove to the site.
Soon, she arrived at the spot, and as she got closer, she saw a delightful dog walking on the dock. Seeing her there all alone made her feel sad.
The moment the dog saw Erwin, she came over to her, rubbing against her legs.
Her tail didn’t stop wagging. She was happy to see a friendly face. Erwin stroked her head and the pup looked at her, smiling. Her face lit up.
As soon as Erwin saw her, she knew she had to take her home.
After she gave her food and water, she took a better look at the stray pooch. Erwin noticed that the dog was lactating. She knew that her puppies had to be very near.
Her Secret
She tried to find out the puppies’ location, and thanks to the information she got from a local, she knew where they were.
“They were stashed at an old rundown, closed restaurant, right on the porch area. They were only 3-4 weeks old. It was December and temps were dropping soon and I couldn’t leave her,” said Erwin.
The property owner told her that the dog had been dumped a few weeks ago while she was still pregnant.
The sweet pooch had been taking care of eight puppies. Erwin looked at her in awe and felt great compassion toward the brave and exhausted momma dog.
“She had to have been drained and exhausted keeping them alive. I really feel for stray momma dogs, so it was especially hard for me.”
She carried the sweet pups in a crate and brought them to her car as they happily wagged their tails. Their mom, whom she named Marla, was so exhausted that she fell asleep on the way to Erwin’s house.
The Happiest Chapter Of Their Lives
The playful puppies and their sweet mom brought so much happiness to Erwin’s home. They stayed there for a month, and then moved to another foster home.
When they were old enough, they received their first vaccines.
The cute puppies were ready to search for their forever home and start the happiest chapter of their lives.

Although Erwin missed having Marla and her puppies in her home, she was over the moon because she knew the puppies’ futures would be bright.
They will grow up in their forever home, soaking up the unconditional love of their family. The sweet pups will be safe and protected. They will never be strays again.
